Class Project - Due Dec 5th

Your class project is worth 15% of your total course grade. This is NOT a standard term paper. The goal here is practical data analysis, learning the nuts and bolts of statistical tests, and linking research questions / hypotheses with the appropriate statistical test.

R Markdown document

You will choose a dataset (either your own or a published dataset) and create an Rmarkdown document summarizing your novel data analysis of that dataset. Note: if you use a published dataset, you must do a new data analysis, you cannot simply recreate a published data analysis.

Your markdown document should:

  1. clearly lay out your research question, with enough background to understand the importance.

  2. explain the structure of the dataset, how it was collected, etc.

  3. justify your choice of analytical method, explaining how this method addresses your research question

  4. presents your results (including at least one graph)

  5. explain what dataset you would like to collect in the future (given no budgetary or time constraints) to fully address your research question

Video presentation

In addition, you will upload a 5 minute video presentation. Think of this as a “lightning talk” where you quickly and efficiently provide the most important details of what your research question and data analysis.

Do not submit the video to blackboard, please upload here: video file upload link to Box

Grade breakdown

The video will be worth 30% of the project grade, and the R Markdown document will be worth 70%.
